About the Author

In 1954, a young little girl was born. In Chicago, Sandra Cisneros was brought up to be a youthful and sweet mixed child. Her father was Mexican and her mother was American. She did not grow up in most little families, she had somewhat of a big family. She was the 3rd child of 7 in her family. She was not only a middle child but she was the only girl. Being the only girl in her family, she didn’t have much guidance of being a young lady, or the properness of what girls do. While her brother did much of the labor work and her mom did the work inside the house she took a hobby in traveling and being aware of her surroundings. As she grew up, through-out her youth, she would write in her diary of what had happened and the changes that would occur. Her writings would later be published. Two of her books are called My Wicked Ways, and Loose Woman. Becoming an adult, she joined groups to help her see the proper ways of being a woman. She than wrote “The House on Mango Street” and really helped the readers understand that it isn’t easy always being the outcast. She includes the struggles one may go through, and the changes that must happen in order to be on top of situations.
